I thought that Tufte reading was interesting--about PowerPoint being a negative alternative for presenting information. I thought it was interesting how the author applied it to schools and how educators will have students give PowerPoint presentations, when simply taking time to write and read--getting your hands on the actual information--would potentially give young individuals a better method of learning. I had never thought about that before, but throughout high school, I'd have to do so many PowerPoint presentations and I hated just bulleting information in a line and trying not to read word for word on my slide while every other student dozed off.
I like approaching PowerPoint in a less academic way, though, and doing something more performace based, and actually using it as a way to make art.

I also had to do a lot of powerpoint work throughout high school and middle school. The only thing we used powerpoint in school for was for presenting information. In middle school i learned the 6 by 6 rule. 6 bullets per slide (or less) and 6 words per bullet (or less) to avoid just reading off the powerpoint. I had never actually seen anybody use powerpoint for anything but a informative presentation.
I think its interesting to take a look at he other functions of powerpoint, especially how it can be used in a performance. Never would have thought of that..
As far as powerpoint presentations work at helping people retain information I don't know. I know that in school if I didn't take notes on a powerpoint I tended to drift off an not pay attention to the presentation...
i never did any sort of power point stuff...maybe because i just rejected technology all together or i was just too lazy to figure it out...i dont know , but now i really find it fun! it was so much easier to figure out than photoshop and illstrator!!! so muchhhh!
but about the reading...tufte was annoying and so was the other dudei know that sounds stupid to say that but the first one was just trying to sound like some genius who "discovered" the art forms of powerpoint, and the other guy is just complaining about somehting which is not a big deal-power point isnt rotting kids brains and not making them stupider. it just is...is a dang program that heps organize #%@#...so yah...terible post comment but whatever
