Are they just so that other drivers know not to be rude to the procession of slow drivers?
Why is it important that other drivers know that the procession is a funeral?
Why do other drivers need to be aware that a funeral is in session?
Are they only for cars or could people start attaching them to their heads?

Huh, what a strange concept. Maybe its so the cars don't get lost on their way to the funeral. Just follow the car ahead of you with the flag!... just kidding.
It's mostly so that other drivers know not to merge in front of somebody in a funeral procession. It's considered extraordinarily rude to interrupt. It also allows the funeral procession to go through red lights on lesser-travelled roads so that they don't get separated. I'm sure it dates back to some sort of tradition about moving the body to its final resting place.
i havent seen a group of cars with the funeral flags in the longest time, and when i did they were bright like, beach lifegaurd orange haha. sooo, maybe the family gets to pick what color the person wants for a flag? just kiddin. but i guess its a good thing i havent seen that in awhile.
reminds me of that fmylife where the girl cut off people in the funeral line and didnt realize til after, haha FTL
